Public Forum on Universal Health Coverage

In February 2010, the National Economic and Social Council (NESC) accepted a proposal from the Ministries of Medical Services, and Public Health and Sanitation to bring about changes in the healthcare financing aimed at realizing universal coverage in the country.  

Emerging info from GFATM Board Meeting in Addis Ababa

Global Fund Executive Director Michel Kazatchkine informed the Board on 19th November  that he has used his discretion to institute an appeal mechanism for the First Learning Wave under the National Strategy Application (NSA) channel.  

Kenya Stop Stock-Outs (SSO) Team hosts health Civil Society Organizations(CSOs) workshop in Nairobi

"Stop the Stock-Outs Initiative" is a regional CSO-led campaign in 6 countries in Africa including Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe to stop continued stock outs of essential medicines in public health facilities.

HENNET gets a new CEO/National Co-ordinator

Beatrice okundi is the new CEO/ National Co-ordinator for HENNET. Beatrice brings with her a wealth of experience having worked in the NGO world for the last ten years.  She has worked with Futures Group International, Merlin and Kenya Broadcasting Corporation in various capacities.  She has also done various consultancy assignments with IGAD/IRAPP, MSF-Belgium and RVP-Seattle.

DPHK Annual Elections

The Development Partners of Health in Kenya (DPHK) will hold its annual Elections during the next monthly meeting on Tuesday 23rd June 2009.

We take this opportunity to thank Dr Klaus Hornetz, the Sector Coordinator of the German Development Cooperation, for serving as Chair and steering the collaboration between the Donor fraternity and the 2 Ministries of Health to greater heights......

Notes from the DPH-K Chair at the occasion of the March 12, 2009 Health Review Summit

The key objectives of the Health Summit were to receive the health sector performance report, launch the health sector performance report and Annual Operational Plan (AOP) 4, award districts and provinces that had exemplified outstanding performance and witness the signing of Code of Conduct by the new Kenya Health Sector Wide Approach (SWAp) members.

Dr. Klaus Hornetz (German Development Cooperation), speaking as the chair of the DPH-K commended the Summit preparatory team and recommended that future Health Summits should not singly focus.....
